A little history on why we, at Vaya Sojourns and TransnicoUSA, feel we’re the best at what we do in Cuba. After a lengthy career in the travel industry (longer than I care to admit) I made a decision in 2009 to slow it down a little - that while I was no longer interested in growing the roses it was time to begin to smell them. And how did that work out? Cuba is on overload and I’ve never been busier!
For many years my “niche” has been off-the-beaten-track and emerging destinations. Cuba, 9 years ago, fit that mold like a glove. Vaya Sojourns applied for, and received, its first Travel Service Provider license issued by the U.S Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control in 2009. That license was renewed by OFAC in 2014 valid through July, 2017. At that time Vaya Sojourns began working exclusively with Transnico International, a Belgian owned company fully licensed by the Cuban government and Cuban Ministry of Tourism as a Destination Management Company (DMC or “On Site” in some circles).
Vaya Sojourns has sent thousands of US residents to Cuba the past 9 years all on full service specifically tailored programs (primarily People to People tours) through numerous US based tour operators and travels agents. By US travel terms we would easily qualify as their DMC based here in the USA. Every person and program we have been instrumental in sending to Cuba has been handled on the ground by Transnico International.
Transnico International has been operating on the ground 24/7 with multiple offices and operations staff throughout Cuba for over 23 years. Our staff in Cuba: operations, guides, drivers, et all are quite simply the best in the business.
Vaya Sojourns and Transnico International formerly merged our operations into one organization when we formed TransnicoUSA, LLC in May, 2015. We now claim, and I believe it’s the case, that our merged TransnicoUSA is the only company in the United States that can claim to be a true DMC (On Site) based in the USA operating legally in Cuba. There is no another company holding government issued licenses in both the USA and Cuba.

Jordan Marona joins Vaya Sojourns combining 17 years of sales and leadership experience in the Travel and Commercial Real Estate Information Technology industries.
Beginning in 2000, Jordan joined Holland America Line (NYSE: CCL) onboard ships as Cruise Staff learning the product while interacting with guests and liaising with Carnival Corporation stock holders. A year later, he was promoted to a Sales Coordinator position supporting the Director of Sales and Vice President of Marketing and Sales at then subsidiary Windstar Cruises. Not long after, Jordan was promoted to the role of National Accounts Inside Sales Representative working with national travel consortiums to promote and develop Windstar’s international cruise business. In 2004, Jordan was again promoted, joining the Holland America Line field sales force as the Business Development Manager responsible for growing the Holland America Line and Windstar Cruises market share in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, Central California and the North Central California Coast. Jordan excelled at large charter negotiations and partnerships with top producing travel agencies earning top honors from Holland America Line during his tenure.
In 2010 Jordan sought a new challenge and a move back to Oregon, the home state of his alma mater, The University of Oregon where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Jordan was hired as an Account Executive at The CoStar Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSGP) and tasked with rebuilding an underperforming market in Oregon while based in Portland. He spent five years building trust and relationships with verticals including Commercial Real Estate Brokers, Commercial Appraisers, Owners, Investors, Financial Institutions, Government Agencies and Vendors of all types. Jordan grew CoStar’s business during this period being promoted to Senior Account Executive, Sales Director and ultimately Senior Sales Director, Debt & Equity Specialist. His success allowed CoStar to hire a small three person team which he led, sustaining and growing from the foundation upon which he built.
Recognized for his efforts in mid-2015, Jordan was promoted to Regional Director for CoStar in the San Francisco Bay Area and North Central California Coast where he led a team of 40 sales and research professionals building market performance from last in the nation to first in the region in his first four months and then maintained sustained growth and stability throughout his tenure while opening an additional office in San Jose to compliment CoStar’s West Coast Headquarters in San Francisco.
Given the opportunity, Jordan is grateful to join Vaya Sojourns as Managing Director expecting to utilize his skill set and experience in sales and leadership to continue to drive results and provide a unique and exclusive experience to our partners and clients in the Cuban travel market.
Jordan resides with his wife Savanah in Sausalito, CA and is very excited to get back to his roots in the travel industry as he embarks on this new path.
